My favorite American artist. A copy of his painting “Gas“ hangs in my bedroom. His seemingly recurrent theme of isolation, even alienation, has always struck me as starkly compelling.

Edgar Degas is best known for his scenes with dancers, but he also made many paintings with hats. In his time, hats were statements of wealth and status, not only in Paris, but also in the U.S. where Parisian styles were often copied. 🎨 The Little Milliners, 1882 #Art #Painting

Claude Monet’s "Woman with a Parasol" (1875) captures a breezy stroll with his wife Camille and their son Jean. The wind lifts her skirt, the sky swirls with motion. Completed in a single outdoor session, this is a celebration of color and light, filled with love. #Art #Painting

Henri Rousseau was born #OnThisDay in 1844. The self-taught French painter was often mocked for his amateurish technique, clumsy compositions and awkward perspectives, but he persevered and his works now hang in museums around the world. 🎨 Luxembourg Gardens, 1909 #Art #Painting

Paul Gauguin worked on this painting over an extended period, incorporating numerous changes. The skirt of the woman in the foreground, for example, was originally bright red and there was a dog in the position now occupied by the basket. 🎨 The Siesta, ca. 1892–94 #Art #Painting

I’m often very rich, not in money, but rich (although not every day exactly) because I’ve found my work, have something which I live for heart and soul and which gives inspiration and meaning to life. ― Vincent van Gogh 🎨 Self-Portrait as a Painter, 1887-1888 #Art #Painting
