For the 1,000th time: The common good isn’t a β€œcollectivist” imposition on the individual. It is the good of the whole and also β€” consequently β€” the good of each individual *as an individual*.

A right is *precisely* a thing that is owed to another. Ironically this individualistic, liberal conception of β€œrights” is the fount of so-called wokeness. One is not going to β€œEnd Wokeness” by getting back to good ol’ liberalism. The problem runs much deeper.

This didn’t just happen. This was a deliberate choice. This is policy in action. β€œOur wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” Indeed

People in Michael Knowles replies thinking he is a hypocritical libertarian is always amusing. So many Progressives think they are the little guy fighting against big corporations, and they think the people on the Right are small-government Ayn Randians. So out of touch.

Those who embrace liberalism will always squirm in the face of predestination. And those who reject the classical views on the primacy of grace will always be inclined toward liberalism. These ideas are deeply connected. Leo XIII said it clearly: Liberalism is neo-Pelagianism.

My question for Edward Feser, or anyone else, is how can we best confront the problem of severe and harmful inequalities through inherited wealth or poverty. The Jubilee laws (while not an inheritance tax) do seem aimed at limiting the potentially harmful effects of inheritance.

I only realized just now that today is the 135th anniversary of Leo XIII’s LIBERTAS. Providentially, some of my reflections on the meaning of true liberty were published today by Revista Suroeste! β€œThe False Liberty of Liberalism” πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡
