NCRST launched Namibia’s R&D Report 2021/2022. GERD increased to 0.73% of GDP from 0.34% in 2013/2014. Government’s R&D spending declined significantly, but other domestic & external funders contributed. African countries committed to 1%, but continental avg is below 0.50%.

Good News: Namibia’s R&D expenditure more than doubled to 0.73% of the GDP. This is a drastic increase from 0.34% in 2013/2014 to 2021/2022. Likewise, the number of researchers also increased drastically with women comprising 50% of researchers. Read more on the infographic.
