Hugely flattered to have been chosen as the winner of this year's The British Phycological Society Hilda Canter-Lund prize for my #confocal image 'The Phycosphere', particularly amongst such a stunning shortlist! brphycsoc.org/canter-lund-20… #protist #diatom #microscopy MBA - Marine Biological Association MBA Cell and Molecular Leica Microsystems

Happy World Algae Day! Here at MBA Cell and Molecular we house the MBA Culture Collection of Microalgae. Our first culture was collected in 1912 and we've been collecting ever since! #worldalgaeday MBA - Marine Biological Association

We're very excited to now have the ZEISS PALM MicroBeam Microscope for laser capture microdissection set up in our new microscope suite. It allows visual identification and contact free, uncontaminated isolation of individual cells and tissues! ZEISS Microscopy @GLWheeler2

At MBA Cell and Molecular we often have to isolate strains of algae from the environment. Here we can see the process of single cell picking where an individual cell is removed from a sample using a fine glass pipette. The cell is washed & grown into a culture of thousands of cells! #algae

Exciting news! Out now, MBA Cell and Molecular publication on the molecular and phylogenetic analysis of the hypersaline species Dunaliella salina, revealing new diversity which has important economic significance. doi.org/10.1017/S00253… MBA - Marine Biological Association #dunaliella #biotechnology

Thank #Fungi it's Friday 🍄 MBA Cell and Molecular Michael Cunliffe 🏳️🌈 we have established a unique collection of fungi isolated from a range of #marine ecosystems, including seaweed-associated and coastal waters. Darwin Tree of Life will sequence their genomes to explore their #biology and #evolution

Great to see my image 'The Phycosphere' featured in the Scientific American 'Science in Images' series! Is #protist parasitism in the #phytoplankton always a bad thing? Pleased to share our latest work 'Healthy herds in the phytoplankton: the benefit of selective parasitism' out today in The ISME Journal with Michael Cunliffe 🏳️🌈 @GLWheeler2 Thomas Mock!
