This was a super day! We are working on a programme of proactive action for 2024 that seeks to increase intel in lesser understood areas; progress disruption activity; improve the use of civil orders and enforcement action; and safeguard more at risk adults and children.

It's been a busy year for Wilberforce Institute and Humber Modern Slavery Partnership (HMSP). I'm incredibly impressed with the progress we have made in 2023 across all our partner organisations in tackling modern slavery in Humberside. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Trevor Burnard. A world-leading historian, Trevor joined the University of Hull in 2019, served as Director of The Wilberforce Institute from November 2019 to June 2024, and was one of the foremost experts on Atlantic Slavery.

The institute and allies enjoyed today's Humberside Police meeting that shaped a new 'Police Race Action Plan to improve policing for black people'. Our Taking the Knee exhibition, co-produced with Hull Museums and the Wilberforce House Museum Advisory Board, was displayed at lunch.
