Another nice fall of birds in the Gravel pits: Cuckoo, 4 Great spot cuckoo, Turtle doves, 3+ Thrush nightingale, Red throated, Tree & Tawny pipits, Redstarts, Whinchats, Savi’s warbler, Willow warblers, Collard & Spot flys, 36+ Red backed shrike, Masked shrike & 7 Ortolan bunting

A fall of passerines at Akrotiri yesterday. Among the birds were an Icterine Warblers, 19 Spotted Flycatchers, six Red-backed & a Woodchat Shrike, three Common Redstart, three Tawny Pipits, two Whinchat, Turtle Doves and a European Roller #cyprusbirds

One of the highlights of Cyprus was watching Alpine Swifts chase each other over the sea whilst Eleonora’s Falcons soared around the cliffs below. Pleased to have captured this image of three of the swifts chasing each other, almost looks like a composite image!

A Male Namaqua dove zoomed past me at Akrotiri Marsh, landing in a bush, never to be seen again (only my second here 🔥) + usual wetland birds, Great spotted cuckoo, Turtle doves, Hoopoe & 2 Great reed warbler.

Nearby 2 Blue cheeked bee eaters at Bishops pool.

Nice selection of birds in the Gravel pits - 6 Turtle dove, Roller, Tawny pipit, Yellow wag, 2 Short t lark, 2 Whinchat, 5 Redstart, Wood, Great Reed & 2 Icterine warblers, 10+ Lesser whitethroat, 2 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, 16+ Spot flys & 14+ Red backed shrike.

Cyprus day 3- up to the mountains in search of endemic sub-species, Masked Shrike, Bonelli’s Eagle, and Cretzschmar’s Bunting. Managed some fantastic views of all of the above in a spectacular setting.

A quick visit to the Larnaca coast late this afternoon was worth it with eight Blue-cheeked Bee-eaters on the wires near Spiros Pool, twelve Squacco Heron in the dunes on Spiros Beach and c30 Collared Pratincole in the fields near the Desalination plant #cyprusbirds
