"Welcome to our world. Welcome to our lives. The business model for journalism is in shambles ... yet there’s a newsroom filled with committed writers and editors and so many others who see their work more as a mission than a job." - Brian McGrory bostonglobe.com/2024/03/04/met…

Strange but true #MBTA story: in 1955 my grandfather fell onto the tracks at Park Street station and touched the third rail. But thanks to his wooden leg, he wasn't electrocuted. The crazy story of his “lucky leg” appeared in newspapers across the country.

.NEJM paper: H5N1 bird flu virus can survive pasteurization The more virus there is in milk, the longer/hotter pasteurization needs to be to kill all the virus. We don't know what % of dairy cows have no/minimal symptoms from bird flu & whose milk is entering the milk supply.

8. The herd list has been separated from the main Dept. of Agriculture #H5N1 #birdflu landing page. Found this interesting info on the landing page proper. How many farms have enrolled in the Voluntary H5N1 Dairy Herd Status Pilot Program so far? Four. usda.gov/media/press-re…

It's been 3 months since Dept. of Agriculture confirmed #H5N1 #birdflu was spreading in dairy herds. Scientists watching the situation are startled by the lack of urgency in the response. “It’s not [being] managed as a zoonotic disease that is a potential dynamic threat."

Colorado reports the 4th human infection with the #birdflu virus circulating in cows. Farmworker. Symptoms like cases 1 & 2 — conjunctivitis. At this point it's clearly an #H5 infection; @CDC will be testing to see if there is enough virus to confirm the N type. Not surprising.

Don Lemon and Georgia Fort have been released. But the procedural history now emerging is unusual. Before the arrests, a federal magistrate judge found no probable cause to arrest them. The government appealed anyway. Here’s why that matters—and what it signals more broadly.
