The devastating Israeli airstrikes that killed World Central Kitchen personnel yesterday bring the number of aid workers killed in this conflict to 196 – including more than 175 members of our own United Nations staff.

This is unconscionable.

1/2 I am horrified to hear reports of the IDF strike taking the lives of 7 World Central Kitchen employees in Gaza yesterday, including a Canadian citizen.

2/2 We condemn these strikes & call for a full investigation.🇨🇦 expects full accountability for these killings & we will convey this to the Israeli government directly. Strikes on humanitarian personnel is absolutely unacceptable. International humanitarian law must be respected.

Every year, I undertake a solidarity mission during the holy month of Ramadan, a time for spreading compassion, community & peace.

This year, I have come to the Rafah crossing to spotlight the hardship and pain of Palestinians in Gaza – and the obstacles to easing their plight.

Inclusion: the only choice to counter polarization & the spread of conflicts which know no borders in our interconnected 🌍 Inclusion is strength. It helps us hear each other & gives us shared purpose. We’ve got work to do and we CAN do it. #InternationalDayToCombatIslamophobia

Always important conversations to be had with my dear brother & colleague Mamadou Sow, Head of ICRC for the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries about ICRC’s crucial engagement across the region & how as partners we must continue working together to uphold international humanitarian law in these turbulent times.
