Not saying I don’t get out much, but when the docs asked for payment today, my wallet was still full of Thai baht. Trying to remember the last time I flew?

The wording for the standard proposal is surprisingly small, given that this is such a *big* *deal*. One of the C++23 features most likely too have a long term impact. Thanks Stephan!

Incredible to see how Amazon 1. Started as an online book store 2. Became the world’s largest online book store 3. Became the world’s largest store 4. Now cannot be trusted to buy books because they’re fake ripoffs 5. Solution: don’t buy books off Amazon but go direct…

If you're running an in-person conference, I should find a link to your COVID policy on the front page of your website. Is there a mask mandate? Air filtration? How is air quality monitored? what contingencies are in place if a room becomes unsafe? Is there outdoor catering?

A reminder, should you need it, of ‘mubble-fubbles’ (16th century): vague, Sunday-eveningish blues and a slight sense of doom.

Logging off for a while to prepare for an ISO wg21 plenary. Hopefully we will be balloting a new C++ standard when I am back online :)

In today's ISO C++ committee plenary session, we voted some big and super-useful new standard library features into C++23: - std::generator - std::mdspan - std::flat_set - std::flat_map - std::print - import std;

Randall Kanna Franson I love how @ardalis.com on BlueSky explained using this sketch. As you learn more, you push the circle outward, increasing its area. But you also increase the circumference of the circle, thus increasing your contact with things you don't yet know.

Dynamic types are the easiest way to write small programs and the hardest way to write large ones. Small programs have an unfortunate tendency to grow into large ones, but rewriting in another language is hard.

It’s that time! Too many depressing and discouraging messages, so I’m uninstalling and dropping Twitter for a while. Not sure if/when I’ll be back, depends on how well I adjust to a social media free world :). Account will remain, so I can pop back, but is not monitored.

Out of hibernation for one question. Are you aware of the Wdeprecated switch for Clang/gcc that diagnoses deprecations not reported by Wall Wextra? If this is new to you, does it flag up a lot of your code? Latest clang reports more than latest gcc.
