SPAIN - The police set up road blocks to stop the farmers. So the farmers erm … just drove through the fields! .. because that’s what tractors do 🤣 Jeremy Clarkson

Today's Twitter Poll: Do you know a farmer (or food producer) directly, either as a customer or as a friend? The aim is to testing how personally linked people are to UK agriculture. PS Thanks to Jan_Mccourt for suggesting this poll.

We’re looking at the first ‘year without harvest’ on my farm, with only c.10-15% currently cropped & surviving, but very low quality after winter. Heavy 🌧️ again today. Extreme weather overcoming decades of investment in healthier soils. A real crisis point & wake up call.

Flat to the mat running seed out for the new SFI scheme… more land out of food production. And me looking for a new job! Any Farm Manager positions out there, ideally south west of Oxford but will consider elsewhere?!

Growing pumpkins can be fun. Selling pumpkins is fun. Feeding cows pumpkins with the manure spreader is so much fun it should be illegal.

In response to Chancellor Rachel Reeves' Budget, FG has launched a new campaign to back Britain's family farms. 🇬🇧 "Small family farms are responsible for producing much of the food we eat, but the inequity in supply chains means they shoulder most of the risk for little

The government is spinning that they are offering a record level of support for British farming This is CATEGORICALLY UNTRUE I’m not sure they understand this point… Let me explain…

Defra cuts coming, Steve Reed the environment secretary tells the enviro audit committee- he said the Office for Environmental Protection and the "rest of Defra" will "have to do more with less" and that the priority has to be "cutting NHS waiting lists"

I’m wondering why I keep getting emails from Defra UK banging on about crop rotation and selective pesticide use like farmers haven’t been practicing these techniques since the DAWN OF TIME. We are in a world of trouble if Gov think stuff we already do is new and “the answer”

Looking at the figures and taking reasonable estimates, it looks like DEFRA's budget for farming is being cut by about 20% in real terms over the next 3 years. I guess food security isn't high on the pecking order.

An abstraction ban imposed by the Environment Agency means these will be stood up for the foreseeable - huge knock to our profitability and the country’s #foodsecurity whilst gardens and grass keep getting water to look nice. Hosepipe ban must be in place asap - fair’s fair National Farmers' Union

After #Groundswell, usually I come away from it feeling inspired, and full of aspiration and drive for another year and a bright future. This year however, I haven’t. Government policies have completely changed my thought process. A thread 🧵Steve Reed MP Rachel Reeves 1/19

5,800 farms fall out of nature-friendly farming schemes at Christmas with the promised successor scheme closed indefinitely. Three decades of taxpayers money invested in nature is about to be erased. At least offer a temporary extension Emma Reynolds for Wycombe 🌹. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
