How do mangrove litter, roots and wood decompose across the globe? Led by lorae simpson, we found that 480 records show that decomposition rates are fairly consistent. Helpful for modelers and those trying to restore these #bluecarbon powerhouses. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
Hi followers! I’m retiring this Twitter handle to move over to my new lab group account (The Future Coasts Lab)! Please follow along there for all your South Australian coastal carbon/research needs! I also still have my individual professional account (Alice Jones). 👋

Hi Jason Clare MP, This is what chronic underfunding of research looks like. In the last decade, we're getting: ❌Lowest total $$ granted ($275M v $387M in 2020) ❌Lowest number of projects funded (421 v 660), & ❌Lowest success rate (16.3% v 23.0) This needs radical change.
It's harder to get funding for basic research projects than ever before in Australia. The Australian Research Council Discovery Projects scheme now has the lowest “success rate” ever: 16.3%. Only 1 in 6 grants are funded. Why? The funding available has plummeted. Please help, Jason Clare MP❗️
🚨Problem: You want to model #coastalprotection by #mangroves anywhere in the world but you don’t know which species exist on the fringe 🤷🏻♀️ ✅Solution: Global Mangrove Zonation map published in Scientific Data Cath Lovelock 🌊🌳🌴 nature.com/articles/s4159…
