Thanks to our wonderful speakers Lauren Howe-Kerr, PhD @motherofcoral Teresa Nobre @Amy and Dr Josh Bonesso from Minderoo Foundation UWA Oceans Institute and James Cook Uni for presenting at our #meetthescientists community event last night 🧬🌊✨
“Clim C. deniers accused scientists of exaggerating the threat of global warming. Evidence from Antarctica makes it very clear that scientists did not exaggerate. Probably underrated by considerable degree threat humanity faces.”

Massive coral bleaching in the states of Alagoas and Pernambuco, Brazil. On track to beat the 2019 record of 19 DHW in Southern State of Bahia. 50% of the species that occur in Brazilian reefs are endemic.

Very clear. Climate inaction means lack of protection of human health and therefore violation of human rights. Landmark decision. World Health Organization (WHO) #climatechange theguardian.com/environment/20…
Meet Sydney Bell Sydney Bell, Working hard from ocean to molecular lab! She is undertaking a PhD at James Cook Uni investigating biogeographic patterns in coral symbionts across Australia’s reefs! #DECRA ARC Exmouth Research Lab Minderoo Foundation
3/ Largely as a result of protest movements #climate has now entered mainstream debate.
And the stakes are clearer than ever.
Following the latest IPCC report in 2022 United Nations Secretary General António Guterres made clear we are faced with a 🚨'Code Red for humanity'
55% of #coral mortalities in the nurseries after the 2019 coral #bleaching event...so frustrating... We urgently need to reduce our greenhouse gaz emissions to save coral reefs, #restoration alone won't be enough. criobe_pf @INEE_CNRS

The South Australian Museum collections provide time-stamped evidence of how species respond to environmental change, truly invaluable to science and society, but will be all tossed away by short-sighted thinking. Shame!
