One of the worst things about shame is that many who have an excess try to shame others. It keeps on going. I have so much respect for those who do not do that. People who suffer shame and perfectionism are real survivors, ethically and emotionally. #shame #perfectionism

Everything we experience has both a conscious and un-conscious correlate. Going through life being aware of the latter gives you much more control and authenticity, with yourself and the world. #underlyingissues #perfectionism #shame

To address the anxiety of perfectionism without the content specific and person specific shame and hurt that drive it will not really get rid of it. Fear of the Abyss: Healing the Wounds of Shame and Perfectionism aletaedwards.com

Shame can feel like your self is disintegrating, like you are worthless before a cruel or out of control other. We can learn it from abuse or neglect, & carry it all our lives. There is a road forward through mindfulness, compassion, community & evidence based therapy. Go well.

While people need to cope with shame-based anxiety attacks, getting help with the root cause can bring tremendous healing. Coping is necessary, but is not the same as healing. #anxiety #perfectionism #shame #coping #healing

People suffering from painful shame episodes do not always identify them as shame, only as specific instances of anxiety and pain. But it is part of a bigger picture and needs to be recognized for what it is to really help. #perfectionism #anxiety

Psychotherapists should be prepared to discuss with their patients what psychotherapy is and is not. They may need to explain that much of mental life is unconscious & the problematic patterns in the patient’s life are not completely within ..conscious awareness. Glen Gabbard.

Constantly blaming others (even when they have done wrong) instead of looking at our own contribution to the situation is guaranteed to prevent emotional growth.

We teach people how to treat us. If we accept mistreatment over and over, the other person will know that this behavior will be tolerated.

Shame is excruciating. I can incapacitate someone to the point of being terrified of doing something. By definition it is hard to talk about, yet taking the secrecy out of it immediately starts the road to improvement and relief.
