Yesterday our Pan Respiratory Disease Surveillance (PRDS) Project team held a landscape assessment pre-validation meeting to review the report of existing respiratory surveillance systems in Nigeria PRDS aims to strengthen respiratory disease surveillance using global guidelines

Surveillance and response to epidemic-prone respiratory diseases have traditionally been conducted through vertical surveillance systems & structures These parallel systems result in the duplication of resources and administrative processes

PRDS is a cost-effective way to monitor multiple respiratory diseases over time using a One Health approach This project is a critical step towards the rapid detection of emerging respiratory diseases, their origin, pathogenic cause, mode of acquisition, & transmission dynamics

Nigeria through the NCDC is set to pilot the PRDS Project with the support of the US-CDC. The PRDS team is working hard to ensure a successful implementation of the this innovation as Nigeria is one of the first countries globally to pilot the PRDS project.
