Death Note: New Generation (2016) is a sequel to the 2006 films. The three part miniseries introduces L’s successor Ryuzaki, an investigator called Mishima, and cyberterrorist Shien - the “new generation” of the Kira case.

Death Note: Light Up the NEW World (2016) is a film sequel to the New Generation miniseries. It is set 10 years after the original Kira case, and follows a three-way battle over six notebooks.

Death Note (2017) is a Netflix adaptation of the manga series.

Beyond Birthday is a popular character of the franchise, despite only appearing in the spinoff novel Death Note: Another Note. The spinoff novel is set in Los Angeles, and would be good material for an American adaptation of the franchise, if one were ever created.

A musical based on Death Note was workshopped in New York in 2014. It has since been performed in Japan (2015, 2017), South Korea (2015, 2017), and Taiwan (2017).
