It was an honour to attend the Senghenydd Mining Memorial Service of Remembrance at the Aber Valley Heritage National Mining Memorial. It’s the 10th Anniversary Year of the Memorial and Eluned Morgan was in attendance. (photo: Caerphilly Observer)

Last October Mark Drakeford 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 saw the people of Senghenydd standing silently in the rain. He ensured that the Senghenydd Mining Memorial was registered as an historic garden, as one of his last acts as First Minister. It was recognised today in the Cardiff City FC match programme.

THE SENGHENYDD MINING DISASTER occurred at the Universal Colliery on 14 October 1913. The explosion, which killed 439 miners and a rescuer, is our worst mining accident. Aber Valley Heritage held a memorial service this morning at the National Mining Disaster Memorial Garden.
