It’s the 45th anniversary of the 504 Sit-In. Demonstrations took place at federal buildings across the U.S. to demand that the Section 504 regulations be signed. I was at the HEW office in San Francisco, where we took over the building for a sit-in that lasted 26 days.

New paper! “Learning a Sign Language does not Hinder Acquisition of a Spoken Language.” This study provides evidence that families with deaf children can pursue ASL without concern of negative impact on spoken English development. 🧵 pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/20…

So excited to see this work and hopefully bring it into clinical practice for how we care for children with hearing differences in the medical community! Bravo!

Really powerful video about Language Deprivation. Thank you Marie Coppola - Disability is Diversity for sharing and Wyatte. We DO know how to prevent language deprivation! Clinicians can and must do better to get this information to parents and families for early access to ASL and language!

Thanks Sara Nović for your article. Must read for all scientists and doctors. Language deprivation, consent, representation, educational impacts must all be considered FIRST and not as an after thought in such research and its dissemination. #firstdonoharm inquirer.com/opinion/commen…

Early signed language exposure does not negatively impact spoken language processing in deaf CI users but may instead potentially offset negative effects of language deprivation without any signed language exposure experience prior to implantation. direct.mit.edu/nol/article/do…
