National Parks are a great topic with friends, neighbors & family that you don’t see eye-to-eye with on politics. Try connecting instead of arguing. Protecting Parks can be a gateway into other topics with shared viewpoints. Do you have a favorite Parks pic, logo, or shirt?

Well, as I’ve said, the non-voters decided the elections in TX. Apathy is a part of it, but voter suppression from reduced early voting hours & locations, removal of early voting from college campuses & elimination of drive up voting impacted minorities & youth significantly.

From a couple of years ago & still true today. If you know someone in TX, they probably don’t vote (statistically speaking). Or they don’t vote in their own best interests. Please convince someone in TX you know to vote Colin Allred over Ted Cruz. Please.

For example, President Lincoln set aside a large section of the Yosemite Valley for public use – the first time that had ever been done in the United States. In 1890, that land would become Yosemite National Park.

Park lovers may be most indebted to Theodore Roosevelt. During his presidency, Roosevelt protected roughly 230 million acres of public land, including five national parks.

For over a century, presidents and their families have played a pivotal role in shaping our national parks. Lady Bird Johnson, along with philanthropist Laurance Rockefeller, lobbied Congress to create the National Park Foundation in 1967.

More recently, Barack Obama protected more natural habitat than any president in American history, exceeding the 290 million acres by the founder of US National Parks, President Theodore Roosevelt. Great conservation by a great President.

Even George W Bush added six new Parks to the US National Park system, and he helped add nearly 2.5 million acres to the National Wilderness Preservation System.
