I hate reporting this: the first #COVID19 death inside Alabama prisons happened at St. Clair CF. Alabama Department of Corrections reports a total of 3 positive cases among incarcerated people, 2 at St. Clair and 1 at Bullock CF.

First death reported in Alabama’s state prisons. The Pardons & Parole Bureau stopped hearing cases of those eligible for release using Coronavirus as an excuse & only just this week agreed to resume hearing on May 18. Alabama’s prisons are the most overcrowded in the country.

The first #COVID19 death in Alabama prisons was a 66 y/o man named Dave Thomas who died at a hospital & had a pre-existing condition. Alabama Department of Corrections just sent me an email asking me to correct my earlier tweet & wrote "misinformation is harmful to all in this environment."

The 2 #COVID19 cases in Alabama prisons include a 52 y/o man transferred to a hospital & a 33 y/o man at Bullock CF where Alabama Department of Corrections says he's being "treated and carefully monitored by physicians." He has a 10-year sentence for theft. Let that sink in: a decade for theft.
