Standard methods of police and campus de-escalation used for demonstrations that cross the line into promoting terrorism & hate has not been effective. It has actually empowered the haters. We need police & universities across North America to use a more active approach.

As Passover begins, I would ask Canadians to reflect on the fact that yesterday our Prime Minister & Leader of the Opposition both needed to issue statements about antisemitic demonstrations in our streets. The last 6 months were the worst in 300 yrs. of Canadian Jewish history.

There is a difference between peaceful protest and hateful intimidation.

It is unconscionable to glorify the antisemitic violence and murder perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th. This rhetoric has no place in Canada. None.

Chants glorifying terrorism. Chants that the US House of Representatives massively voted are antisemitic. Chants extolling violence. This is not a rally for peace.

I supported the substance of the motion of my colleague, who is a true ally of the Jewish community & I will encourage all my colleagues to support it when it is raised again.

Yesterday the Heritage committee held hearings on a bill to enshrine the court challenges program. A motion was raised without notice. It requires unanimous consent to debate it & change the subject of the meeting. 1 Liberal said no. Not to the content. To changing the subject.

A lot of mistruths are flying around about a motion on antisemitism on campus. First I moved a motion at the Justice Committee months ago to study antisemitism on campus and it was adopted several weeks ago and the hearings will start soon. 1/2

Tonight I joined some extraordinary people at Na’amat Canada’s solidarity with Israel event in Toronto.

It was an honour to speak at the Chevra on Sunday evening to honour the extraordinary Roslyn Joseph.

Canada should designate the IRGC as a terrorist entity. Permits to ship military technology to Israel should be resumed. Extolling terrorism in Canadian streets should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
