When I train for my personal races, I always look at my growth rather than my rank. Last year Joliet Cyborgs ranked 52/52 at Midwest. This year we ranked 39/52. That is amazing growth. So proud of this team!

Visiting Shedd Aquarium was a weekly ritual. We had no money and sometimes the museum was free so we could go and sit and watch them swim. Really, it’s one of the most serene and inspiring places in Chicago.

The Tigers Distance family is devastated to share the news that at 17, Abe Vertiz was killed in Joliet. He ran for a year at Joliet Central and then transferred & ran at West. Abe was a talented runner and great teammate; he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are w/ his family.

That’s Abe in the center, #950, after running a PR in Peoria in 2018. When I remember him, it’ll be like this: happy and surrounded by teammates who cared about him.
