We were asked to give notes on what we thought policing needs to support Neurodiversity. Here’s what I came up with! Mostly based on my experience and that learned through ⁦Police Autism UK⁩ and ⁦Genius Within

This is a thought for the weekend, shared with my friends & family to encourage them to continue to stay@home. My 💙 goes out to anyone who has lost someone close to them, because is means ‘someone is already missing’ from their personal community. Take care & follow the guidance

Thanks Sussex ICVS Manager - great stuff 😁 All feeds in to Sussex Police Neurodiversity Delivery Plan. This is then all brought together into what we seek to achieve within the wider sphere of equality. Led by @SusPolDiversity and @DCCJoShiner

'People who are unfamiliar with ADHD see it wrongly. The cliché of ADHD is a scatterbrain with an inability to focus. In fact ADHD has its advantages, including periods of hyperfocus that can be beneficial when you're working on a trading floor.' news.efinancialcareers.com/uk-en/3003818/…

If ND was understood and supported with different kind of interventions, just maybe their wouldn’t be so much of a need for sentencing! In relation to ADHD....”Children are seen as ‘disruptive’ and can easily be made worse under conventional behavioural control efforts”=exclusion

My hope of the day goes out to the family, friends and colleagues of PS Matt Ratana. I hope they get help, the right help they’ll all need to overcome the trauma which will everyone would have absorbed. Like ripples on a pond, the trauma effects will go out a long way.

From The Guardian:”The suspect, reported to be a 23-year-old AUTISTIC man of Sri Lankan descent, was arrested by regular officers following a stop and search after he was seen behaving strangely.” I hypothesise, for 23yrs the suspect’s autism wasn’t supported to enable prevention

And even when someone has the courage to seek some help, often the right help isn’t there. ‘Go to your GP’ they say, or ‘Ring the Employee assistance program’. What if they have ‘been there done that’ and it didn’t help?

I will be watching this….although due to my own ADHD and weakened executive functions I’ll probably forget it’s even on by tomorrow. Thankfully, accessing TV on demand works for me!
