Conditions are currently favourable for hazard reduction burns to be done around the ACT, and in surrounding NSW, but the detailed planning and preparation behind each prescribed burn can take months, or even years.

Hazard reduction burns continue in the Snowy Valleys and Snowy Monaro areas. Resulting smoke may be experienced in the Canberra, Queanbeyan, Jindabyne and Cooma areas, and is likely to settle overnight in low lying areas.

Thank you to everyone who braved the inclement weather and came along to the Canberra Airport and ESA Open Day on Saturday.

Despite the rain, there were smiles all around as Canberrans met with our services’ staff and volunteers, and explored emergency vehicles and helicopters.
