Early today, the 737 Large Air Tanker 'Marie Bashir' departed RAAF Base Richmond and headed to the United States. Once our aircraft arrives in Palm Springs, it will undertake annual maintenance, before deploying to assist CAL FIRE with their upcoming fire season.

Today, aviation personnel airlifted food, fuel and essential supplies into the Megalong Valley. The valley was impacted when the only public access road was cut off by a landslide over the weekend. The supplies were unloaded by local volunteers from the Megalong Valley Brigade.

It's been a busy night and day for emergency services across NSW, with heavy rainfall and damaging winds impacting much of the state's east coast. RFS volunteers continue to assist the NSW SES respond to fallen trees, downed powerlines, flood rescue and clean up.

Crews are working to control the Kingsvale Rd Fire, burning near Kingsvale Rd, Young (Hilltops LGA). The fire is burning in a southerly direction towards Thornell Rd. Crews are in position for property protection at two nearby properties, should they be required.

Today marks the end of the statutory bush fire danger period for the majority of NSW. Due to local conditions, the BFDP will be extended in two LGAs, with restrictions continuing in the Mid Western LGA until April 14 and Snowy Monaro LGA until April 30. rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Last night, the Casula RFS Brigade hosted their second annual Iftar dinner. Observed at sunset, Iftar is the fast-breaking meal eaten by Muslims during Ramadan. 'We look forward to hosting this night for many years to come and with even more volunteers,' Captain Ben Graham said.

RFS crews were called to a structure fire in the river village of Milsons Passage. Fourteen firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, utilising four fireboats. Thanks to the quick action of brigades, the fire did not spread to neighbouring properties. No injuries were reported.
