Today, the LAF office had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Lorenzo M. Wakefield our partner from the Mott Foundation as part of their visit to Rwanda. Through its partnership with LAF, the Foundation is assisting to scale up grassroots legal empowerment in Rwanda through paralegal interventions

Today, in collaboration with Ministry of Justice & Judiciary of Rwanda, we had the pleasure of hosting Lorenzo M. Wakefield from Mott Foundation at the ADR Center, to witness the center’s impactful work in advancing alternative dispute resolution through mediation & plea-bargaining sessions.

Ensuring everyone has access to legal aid is crucial! On the 17th March 2025, PRAWA, with support from Branimir Rošić, assessed the Legal Aid Council in Lagos State to boost their capacity as a central hub for legal assistance. We're working towards a more just society. #JusticeForAll

1/ Yesterday at the #SDG16 Conference in New York, our Executive Director joined a high-level panel on the Rome Civil Society Declaration on SDG16+, highlighting the need for accessible, cost effective, people-centered justice initiatives, especially amidst justice funding gap.

2/ During the panel, he shared Rwanda’s ambitious reforms to realize SDG 16: Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions, especially post-Genocide transformation anchored in the rule of law, reconciliation, and citizen-centered governance. Link to declaration: rb.gy/9o5nd9

1/2 Last Friday, we officially concluded Legal Aid Week, which we had been conducting in partnership with City of Kigali since 16 June! During the week, we engaged communities on land and family laws, empowering them with the knowledge to better understand and claim their rights.

2/2 Over 3,000 residents from all Districts of the City of Kigali participated in the week—learning about their rights, sharing legal challenges, and receiving the legal support they needed. We were honored to receive an award in recognition of this impactful partnership. ⚖️🏆
