Kenia Hernandez has been in prison in #Mexico for 33 months. The indigenous rights activist was convicted and imprisoned after a trial riddled with irregularities, according to a TrialWatch report released one year ago this week. cfj.org/news_posts/und…
Last year, a court in #Mexico reduced Hernandez’s sentence to nine years and five months, down from more than 11 years. TrialWatch had monitored her trial through our partners ABA Human Rights, finding it “riddled with irregularities” and assigning it a D grade. cfj.org/news_posts/und…
Last October, The Observatory said that Hernandez' health was deteriorating in maximum-security prison where a lack of potable water and adequate medical care had been reported. UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders Mary Lawlor UN Special Rapporteur HRDs called for her release that same month.
