Interesting Defra Business Readiness Forum today covering Simpler Recycling, DRS, Single use vapes ban and EPR data. Slides 360environmental.co.uk/wp-content/upl… Particularly useful was the current timeline for the introduction of various policies - long and complex.

Woeful 2007 regs producer packaging data numbers published. Compared to same time last year, 200 less producers registered, nearly 1m less tonnes recorded, plastic av. per registration down 11%. npwd.environment-agency.gov.uk/Public/PublicC…

Latest EPR producer list shows 6,140 producers have registered, coincidentally, virtually the same as have registered under the 2007 regs (6,143). Asda seems to be the only major supermarket missing from both lists.....

Strong concern from the glass packaging industry over EPR based fees costs. Eg drinks manufacturer putting 10k tns glass packaging onto UK market will pay c. £300k PRN costs in 2024. In 2025 they will pay £3.3m on higher base fee. If PRNs cost £100/t, they wud pay another £740k.

Suspended jail sentences, paltry fines, 2 years to clear the site - I wonder who will end up picking up the cost. And the previous prison sentence had no effect, so hard to see the two of them not just carrying on. gov.uk/government/new…

So much wrong with our judicial system - paltry fines, appatently no POCA, suspended prison despite previous offences and it took 7 years to get to prosecution. Waste crime certainly does pay. gov.uk/government/new…

Couldn't make it up. BBC reports: 'The US and UK F-35s - which were initially scheduled to also take part (in the flypast) - have been forced to stand down due to poor weather.' Just as well it's always sunny when we go to war.
