The best place to shelter from the elements and dry off in Ireland is, of course, the local pub, & with Irish music, Guinness & Baileys coffee, the Harbour Bar was the place to be - packed to the rafters with Norwegian Star passengers enjoying local hospitality of Killybegs.

After a lovely chilled day in Killybegs, we headed into the rain, wind and mist of the open sea around the top of Ireland. We hoped to see the Sliabh Liag Cliffs as we sailed past, but the visibility was not in our favour. A rather wet but enjoyable sailaway. #irelandcruise

The final stop on our Ireland cruise was our surprise visit to Greencastle in Co. Donegal. Because we had to miss our west coast ports due to the weather, we were really pleased to visit Greencastle, a delightful little fishing village with gorgeous views from the rocky coastline

Would you believe there actually is a green castle in Greencastle? We came across these ruins of 13th century Northburgh Castle. We have so many castles on our own doorstep, but there was something quite evocative about this ancient stronghold slowly being reclaimed by nature.

Norwegian Star anchored off Greencastle. Many ports on our Ireland cruise original itinerary were tender ports, which puts you at the mercy of the weather, & 3 of our original ports were cancelled because of expected high winds. Fortunately, our visit to Greencastle went ahead.

Really enjoyed our time in the little fishing village of Greencastle on the Donegal coast - we walked, we explored, we met goats, we enjoyed coffee and cake, and had a couple of beers. A very relaxing day on our last port of call in Ireland. #irelandcruise #travelblog #ireland
