Independent Voices Isabelle Roughol Timely article. Its increasingly upsetting how various public health experts and scientists make demands for 'strict border controls', blanket hotel quarantine', etc etc as if there are no social or human right implications for families, and our vast immigrant population

Muge Cevik @tomslater42 Cupy80 I feel that's the where problem lies, the Tories have made a political choice to deprive migrant communities from right to see loved ones, so they can show they're "acting tough on new variants", after labour made political capital over the leaky borders narrative. Its tragic.

Travel restrictions are a good way to perpetuate racism and barely delay the inevitable spread of variants that arise from wealthy nations' decision to horde vaccines and give boosters with no good data while the 🌎 perishes.

The UK’s travel restrictions are creating a toxic north-south rift in British foreign relations. Read David Frost op-ed on why travel bans diminish the UK’s standing in the world #AmberforAfrica medium.com/@david.frost41…

🇬🇧🗺️ 🇹🇷 Turkey comes off the UK's Red List. 7 day case average 23 407, and cases have been rising since the end of August. 🇿🇦 South Africa stays on the red list. 7 day case average 4339, and cases have been falling since 25th August. eNCA

This is a kick in the teeth for 1.5 million South African tourism workers who were relying on UK visitors this spring. There isn’t a shred of scientific evidence to support keeping #SouthAfrica on the #redlist. Get us to 100k petition.parliament.uk/petitions/5893…

The government spent the first half of 2021 hyping up the threat of the 'South African variant'. In spite of it being rapidly overtaken by Delta across the world, the tabloid hysteria has done its job and gov is following the opinion polls, not the science. Shameful.

South Africa remains on UK red list bbc.com/news/uk-586024… Turkey (x3 case rate) & Pakistan (lower testing/sequencing rates++) remain. Delta variant reigns in SA & UK. GOV.UK & UK in South Africa🇬🇧🇿🇦 have a duty to provide a full explanation based on data SATSA ᑕᗩᑭE TOᗯᑎ

Many European countries allow travel from South Africa. In summary, we have a smaller number of infections than the U.K., similar variant dominating, advanced genomic surveillance, and transparency on science and policy. So why this discrimination? Boris Johnson

#Rampahosa spoke to UK prime minister Boris Johnson today and they agreed that SA being on the UK's #COVID red list needs to be reconsidered and that such a decision needs to be made based on science, not politics.

How do you double down on inequity and injustice? Deny countries vaccines so they generate variants and then when they do impose travel restrictions.

Tasneem Kathrada (@t_kathrada) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Can’t get over how needlessly cruel it is to put South Africa on travel red lists yet again & further separate people from their loved ones, when in all likelihood variants are being generated the world over. Knee jerk, irrational decision by arrogant neocolonial powers.

For anyone unaware, Paddington is the story of an unaccompanied minor who sought refuge in our United Kingdom. This is what we should always be. Kind.
