A 12 year old is killed by a driver and it barely makes the national press. A 12 year old is told to take off a Union Jack dress and the right wing breaks out in incandescent outrage.

Big changes are coming to Enfield's roads. Enfield Council is proposing 20mph speed limits on residential streets & town centres, to make our neighbourhoods safer, cleaner and greener.

Why 20mph? Because a small drop in speed = a BIG increase in safety. 🛑42% fewer road collisions 💛5x more likely to survive if hit at 20mph vs 30mph

It’s about more than speed: 🌿 Less air pollution 🚶‍♀️ More walking & cycling 🧒 Safer for kids 🛍️ Better for local businesses

This is part of our long-term plan: ✅Support Vision Zero (no road deaths or serious injuries) ✅Tackle the climate crisis ✅Help people travel safely without a car

Did you know that national Government fund £0.00 for the support for road crime or road collision victims? Did you know that national Government fund many £ millions for the support of a much smaller number of victims of homicide and terrorism? If Government is to fund the

The evidence on the wide benefits of 30kmh and 20mph limits keeps on coming. Denying the evidence is callous and so detrimental to community health and well-being in city, town or village where 30kmh/20mph should be default. bit.ly/3GuRur4 bit.ly/3GuRur4

We’re all pedestrians when spending time & money in our towns & high streets. Pedestrians cross roads where it’s easiest to reach shops & bus stops, not necessarily at pedestrian crossings. Pedestrians are safer when motor vehicle speeds are lower. #20sPlenty Journeys and Places Enfield

“Helsinki has not recorded a single traffic fatality in the past 12 months, city and police officials confirmed this week.” City engineer credits lower speed limits and smart design. I agree. #Helsinki #VisionZero yle.fi/a/74-20174831

Excited to be part of a session on how we can help young drivers be better drivers, reduce the risk of young driver collisions and the resulting devastation, and hopefully reduce the cost for them too. Road Safety GB Hope to see lots of you there …

Not a single person died on Helsinki’s roads in the last year. An impressive achievement which shows cities across the world that road traffic deaths are not inevitable. helsinkitimes.fi/finland/finlan… Helsinki records zero traffic deaths for full year - Helsinki Times

Local folk in West Yorkshire Combined Authority are concerned about the consequences of bad driving and road danger, and so rather than moan, took action 👍🏻 Have a look at this short clip from ITV News Calendar setting out how locals have helped to make our roads safer and highlight the seriousness

The Will Hayward article that dives deep into the data around the 20mph default in Wales. It busts the myths and celebrates the success for Welsh communities. bit.ly/3U7r5mv

Partnership and political leadership in action in West Yorkshire Combined Authority at our annual Vision Zero - West Yorkshire public event. Great to see local folk learning about Vision Zero - West Yorkshire and how they can contribute to reducing road danger - and so many children came too! Our focus is on #VisionZero

"The science and evidence are totally clear: revocation of 20mph limits or LTNs will lead to crashes, injuries and deaths. Councillors and their advisers who pursue such actions risk being held personally liable for the harm that ensues." bit.ly/4mUoBEt

Is it time for a focused APPG UK House of Commons on road death / road danger / road safety rather than one for transport safety? Different policy response, different history, different impact, different research, different policy solutions, different politics. Andy McNab

Great to see this excellent video from on how 20mph limits have been a success in Wales. A smart way to implement 20mph with 26% fewer casualties and £90m annual savings for motorists on insurance premiums.
