Heartening that BBC Sussex discussed 20mph in East Sussex residential areas. Costs were raised. But think of the costs for ill health – inactivity and isolation when people don't walk for fear of speeding cars, let alone road accidents and air pollution. Default 30 costs more.

10% of pedestrians would die when struck by a vehicle traveling at 20mph, compared to 50% for vehicles travelling at 30mph (from actionvisionzero.org/what-to-campai…). With 20mph limits a crucial part of #VisionZero, we agree with Ely Cycling Campaign that more needs to be done across #Cambridgeshire.

This is the Secretary of State for the Environment and despite being a ranty and no doubt often boring polemicist, I am actually lost for words.

They have tried out simple (implied) zebra crossings in Wales and Manchester why cannot East Sussex County Council do the same. Drivers need reminding about giving way, as in the new Highway code changes.

Sometimes a story lands that leaves you utterly baffled. How has this concrete issue only just come to light? Why wasn’t something done when risks first identified? Why are schools being told to close literally the day before they were meant to open? The fuck-up is mind-boggling.

To repeat. The 3 largest house builders in the UK are over £500,000,000 richer since Michael Gove binned pollution rules on Tuesday morning. Guess who provides 20% of Tory party funding? Not that any of those things are interconnected you'll understand. housingtoday.co.uk/news/a-fifth-o…
