❗️MARKET HERITAGE UNDER THREAT❗️ Residents of Joy Street were horrified today to discover that the contentious planning application for the Sussex Place Convent School is to go before Planning Committee next Tuesday 18th January.

The Convent School is an integral part of our cultural and built heritage, with generations of children being educated there for over 100 years. The current proposal will destroy both this important building and the historic streetscape surrounding it. #SaveTheMarket

Civil Rights icon Rev Jesse Jackson Sr visiting Belfast's oldest boxing club, St George’s ABC, at their previous home in Sussex Place Convent School. We call for the Schools preservation & for its regeneration for community benefit over the current speculative proposal for private gain.

On Good Friday 1916, Charlie Monahan from Riley’s place in the Market area died, alongside 2 other volunteers while on active service. They were on course to seize Valentia Island wireless stations in County Kerry when their car crashed into the River Laune at Ballykissane.
