While on a routine training sortie this afternoon, 1310 flight (currently crewed by 18 Squadron) extinguished their first fire on the Sovereign Base Area of Cyprus near RAF Akrotiri 🔥 The new capability was brought in by RAF Odiham in a very short period. Good work all round!

On Monday, we worked with the Sovereign Base Area Fire Services to tackle a forest fire near RAF Akrotiri. The aircraft dropped 110 tonnes of water to extinguish the blaze, but launching the alert aircraft is a whole force effort. #StrongerTogether

Two chinook from RAF Akrotiri joined other BFCyprus units in responding to a major wildfire in the Republic. Updates via BFBS Forces News

Our aircraft and crews are involved in the multinational effort to fight the wildfires in Cyprus. Today, approximately 500 tonnes of water was dropped by Chinook. Our personnel are working around the clock to enable this lifesaving activity.

We were the first international asset to be requested on the afternoon of 23rd July. Despite being on 1 hours notice, the Chinook was airborne in just 42 minutes from activation. This was the culmination of months of effort by RAF Odiham and RAF Akrotiri personnel.
