It’s a strange feeling dropping your eldest off at RAF Air Cadets for her first full night, nearly 22 years after you joined. So much has changed, making something which was already brilliant even better. I owe a lot to the ATC, an organisation entirely staffed by volunteers.

Tonight we celebrated the success of our cadets with lots of awards from various activities during the summer. These included Pre-DofE awards, Intermediate Swimming, Blue Comms, Bronze Comms and Bronze Cyber Badges and a Method of Instruction Award. Congratulations all!

Due to the growing numbers of the squadron, what better time than now to promote some NCOs. A huge congratulations to our newly promoted Corporals: Tilley, Story, Scott and Harper. And moving from Corporal to Sergeant were Driver, McElrue, Telford and Geoghegan. Well done all!

On Sunday, the squadron participated in the Inter-Squadron Swimming competition at Stanley. Although we didn't place, we did manage to grab some medals and the Junior Girls came second overall. Congratulations to all who gained some medals and well done to all who took part!

Last night, Sqn Ldr Miller attended the squadron to carry out Method Of Instruction assessments for both Sgt Jack Driver and Sgt Declan Geoghegan. Both passed without a problem and were awarded their yellow lanyards. Well done!

Last week, five cadets from Consett squadron were chosen to represent the Wing. Cdt Belnavis and Cdt Clasper in swimming and FS Benson, Sgt Driver and Cpl Shaw in Aircraft Recognition at the regional competitions day. They were awarded their Blues and Flashes for their efforts!

Another 10 cadets gained their Pre-DofE awards last night and were subsequently given their blue badges. Cdt Clasper was also awarded a Level 1 BTEC in Teamwork & Personal Skills in Uniformed Youth Organisations – just one of the many qualifications you can gain in the Air Cadets

8 cadets went flying at RAF Leeming on Tuesday. The windy conditions didn’t stop anyone getting up and we even gained 2 bronze wings!

Absolute delight to welcome RC North - ACO to the squadron tonight for the presentation of a Certificate of Meritorious Service. Fantastic night.

Awards galore tonight at the squadron as we were catching up following our Christmas Break. First Class, Pre-DofE, Blue Leadership, Blue Comms and Bronze First Aid badges were all given out - 45 badges in total! What a start to 2019.

On Friday, Cpl Harper, Cdt Parker, Cdt King, Cdt Checksfield and Cdt Hayes were all awarded their Basic Swimming Proficiency certificates. Well done them!

Wing Athletics Competition today, 🥇6 Gold, 🥈6 Silver and 🥉1 Bronze meant the squadron finished FIFTH overall. U15 Boys came 3rd with the U15 Girls finishing first. Amazing effort by everyone. Well done.

We will be open tomorrow night as normal so we can get all of our eggs in one basket ready for a busy weekend next week.

We recently learnt that we were North Region - RAF Air Cadets's representatives for the Marshall Trophy! Down to the last six from 950+. It is evident the amount of work the staff, cadets and Civ Com have put into the Sqn over the last couple of years, here’s to continued growth and success!
