Almost two thirds of shop theft is driven by repeat offenders and this is a growing problem, James Lowman appeared on BBC London TV to talk about the impact that this has on local shops

Thankful to work for a retailer who puts colleague/ customer safety at the heart of everything we do. We need greater engagement from National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) to help identify those prolific offenders & make our communities a safer place Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire @WYPCP The British Retail Consortium Kate McCrae Graham Edd Howe

The response to our in-store crime campaign this week has been incredible. And if today’s Times is to be believed it’s been instantaneous also !! Action needs to marry the words however to provide the protection so badly needed #safercolleagues #coop

Another strong message from Co-op working together with ITV News Chris Choi to continue raising awareness of the impact retail crime is having within our stores & across our communities Kate McCrae Graham Edd Howe Shirine Khoury-Haq Jenny Alleyne @paulgerrard1971 itv.com/news/2023-09-2…

Unbelievable comment that completely misses the point. In 80% of cases where Co-op do make ‘citizens arrests’ the police don’t turn up so we have to let them go. The priority has to be an effective police response to build on what businesses are already investing in.

Incredibly misinformed comments by Chris Philp MP Conservatives. Our retail colleagues aren’t trained law enforcement. It’s risky and unfair to underestimate the dangers posed by ‘looters’. Even when we do detain, the majority of the time police don’t respond.

We've been actively campaigning for a step up in police response to retail crime, so I gladly welcome the newly announced Retail Crime Action Plan. Co-op is ready to work with every police force across the UK to keep our colleagues, our stores and the communities we serve, safe.

Threats, violence and abuse should never be part of the job – but for too many shopworkers, it's becoming a daily routine. Please co-sign our letter to the Home Secretary, calling for action on retail crime to keep our colleagues and communities safe. 👇 party.coop/campaign/retai…

Today at Justice Questions, I raised the staggering rise in violence against shopworkers just this year alone, as reported by the Co-op. The best way to stop violence against shopworkers is to make it a standalone offence, as called for by Co-operative Party, The Labour Party & UsdawUnion.

I am really pleased to see Crimestoppers shining a light on this important issue.Calling on my network to fill in the survey. Safe streets should be a given for everyone. Crimestoppers NBCC - National Business Crime Centre #saferstreets #safespaces

Violence against shopworkers is skyrocketing: it's time for action from Parliament. Ask your MP to support an amendment which will make assaulting a shopworker a specific standalone offence. 👇 party.coop/retailamendmen…

So today is National Retail Workers Day and alongside UsdawUnion, I'm celebrating all 3 million retail workers, including our incredible Co-op colleagues, and the vital work they do supporting local communities every single day. Huge shout out to all shop-workers. #NRWD24
