Coleopterists, am I right that this is Cicindela longilabris, Boreal Long-lipped Tiger Beetle? It is flying around southern Alberta for weeks now. This one near Lethbridge.

Meanwhile back in #Alaska After skipping a couple years (due to low population levels) I ventured in pursuit of lekking Sharp-tailed Grouse. I found several grouse but none were in the mood to dance. Maybe next year. In Alaska these 'prairie' grouse live in the boreal forest.

The shooting stars are out at Gap Spring in Esmeralda County. This area is completely claimed up by lithium miners and the wetlands may dry up due to dewatering from the proposed Rhyolite Ridge Mine. We are fighting hard to save this place.

Turns out, crops do just as well without coating all seeds with pesticides “just in case”. Research shows that doing so has little to no economic benefit.
Quebec has required a 'prescription' for these pesticides, with benefits for both growers & wildlife!

I can't stop posting photos of Prairie smoke while it looks this good.

The Swainson's Thrushes have landed in Whitehorse, Yukon... it seemed like one day they were absent, and today they are filling the trees! Still largely silent, but soon the woods will be filled with their glorious songs.
