New experiment on the go, examining how bottom drifting macroalgae affect eelgrass meadows! 🌱🇸🇪 ZOsteRa RestOration

3,5 kg (!) of algae from 1 m2 of eelgrass meadow😮. The bottom is really packed with these furcellaria balls. It will be interesting to see their effect on the meadow 🤩

ZOsteRa RestOration are back at #kosterhavet planting #eelgrass ! Green crabs are abundant in this area and have destroyed large restoration efforts previous years. This year we will test how planting density and fishing for crabs affect survival of shoots 🌱🇸🇪

The past few days we’ve started new eelgrass planting experiments in the Koster national park in Sweden to see if we can overcome problems with crab damage 🌱🦀 We have also done a mark-recapture of crabs and the population numbers are astonishing 😳
