Obligatory reminder that there is an official source for hurricane forecasts that forecasts 7 days into the future! They're aptly named the National Hurricane Center! They consist of the world's best operational tropical meteorologists. If people you follow share their stuff, you're good!

🌊 Vegas floods hit different. If you recently moved to southern Nevada from a different part of the country, “monsoon season” might be new to you. This unique phenomenon in the desert southwest makes dangerous flash floods more common during summer months. #MonsoonAwarenessWeek

Just learned a ton about the @FEMA FMAG process in my recent visit to FEMA Region 10. This is a crucial element of FEMA support to quickly provide the resources for local/state entities to scale up their response efforts as they can quickly become overwhelmed! 🔥

Shout out to Brandon Black for fun moderation last night! If you haven't done one of these, you should! We chatted a bunch of cool things - like when and where the NAWAS is used, conferences, networking, and research to operations! Thanks Brandon and NWA friends!

Very much so, that being said, this is literally what we do everyday on the days that these catastrophes aren't happening. But the flaw of determinism ("itll rain this much") is the lack of context. This actually WAS a possibility, just a very low percentage one.

On June's @NWAS Member Meetup, I got to sit down with Dr. Micki Olson and discuss her recent publication in BAMS! Loved the introspective look at how we (NWS) communicate heat and our products and services in general. Don't miss this webinar tomorrow! 🤓 nwas.org

⚠️TSUNAMI ADVISORY remains in effect for the California coast. Stay away from the water! Stay away from beaches and waterways! Remember: Tsunamis are series of waves carrying large masses of water. The first wave may not be the largest! Do NOT go to the coast!! #CAwx #Tsunami

For the love of public safety messaging, it DOES NOT HELP to knowledge dump everything you know about the science of tsunamis right now. It DOES help to use your platform to point to official sources and local safety information.
