What happens when fermions jump in a crystal with defects? With Chris, Maissam Barkeshli , and Siwei, we have combined ideas from QFT and Condensed Matter to answer the question and checked it extensively in numerics. Surely it has the most beautiful figures in any of my papers.

I messed around a little bit with DeepSeek, asking it both science and other questions. I think it is better than all the US-based models I tried. Still below a strong middle-school student in reasoning.

It must be a joke that OpenAI is complaining that some of their proprietary material was stolen after they have stolen the totality of human knowledge and nobody got remunerated (and a lot of this knowledge was seriously botched, too)…

Some very brief first impressions from my attempts to use OpenAI's new Deep Research project to do mathematics. I'm very grateful to the person at OpenAI who gave me access.

Slightly more than one month in: A summary. -- 80 years of peace disrupted -- a €800B Plan to “Rearm Europe” has been announced. -- Putin is ecstatic. -- US stocks lost $3T. -- Universities may or may not survive to 2026.

very cool test of intuition -- which one is going to fall faster when released from rest? and it's quite interesting to write the equations y(t) for both cases and compare!

Perhaps the simplest infrared renormalon appears in the humble lambda phi4 theory in two dimensions, and signals the need for non-perturbative corrections. In my paper of today I analyze it in depth and obtain these corrections explicitly. arxiv.org/abs/2504.12044

It is difficult to fathom what must have gone through his mind when he realized that two bosons could bind to form a fermion. I will try to reproduce the shocking nature of this claim on Monday :)

Overcome weekend boredom with a lecture about the historic discovery that two bosons can combine into a fermion, plus a glimpse into the more recent developments... drive.google.com/file/d/17c_Njm…
