I’m not blaming Puk. Can’t win if you don’t score. Just a crazy game. Baseball is just cruel sometimes. Having your closer flame out midseason is a hard challenge to overcome. The bullpen never quite recovered.

Most baseball fans don’t quite get just how hard the game is to play and manage. They focus almost entirely on outcomes and ignore the subtleties of the game. It’s an epidemic.

Sticking with Sewald was defensible IMO. As a manager there is a potentially very high cost to bailing on players too quickly after they’ve earned their rolls through good performance.

Kyler can be so good at times but his success feels very situational. He struggles against defenses that are disciplined enough to rush/contain him the right way. He still hasn’t found an answer for that after all his time in the league.
