Reaching to whatever’s left of Twitter to issue a plea that if I don’t make this weekend, it’s because, I’m on my own and hosting my girl’s 13th birthday. There will be 8 13-year-olds in my house for the next 24 hours. I hope I survive… Keep me in your thoughts 😬

So here’s my survival plan. We’re at the toboggan hill – again, me and 8 13-year-olds. It’s cold. They’re working hard. They’ll be exhausted for tonight, hopefully making this wolf pack a little less lethal. #survivethenight

Survival plan slightly misfires… driving back from the toboggan hill with the teenaged girl wolf pack, all of them start singing Jingle Bells at the top of their lungs… is this a preview of what’s to come??? This already feels like the longest night.

Right, so the convo among the wolf pack has turned to very uncomfortable and awkward discussions about boys. Yelling and squealing and what sounds like fighting in agreement. It’s cacophonic, confusing and a little uncomfortable. Need a new survival plan! #toomany13yearolds

A reprieve in the battle… the wolf pack of giddy 13-year-old birthday-party-goers shift their focus from awkward pubescent conversations to a sing along of the The Grinch as the old cartoon plays on the TV. Hope for me surviving the night… Also, hope for the next generation?

Operation Surviving #toomany13yearolds takes a welcome turn. The birthday wolf pack (made up entirely of alpha females) has stalked down to the basement, from where the loud cranking of Led Zeppelin now emanates. This is where my survival resides and, hope for humanity???

So the #toomany13yearolds wolf pack declared its uncontrollable hunger. I asked if they wanted chips, popcorn, cake, pop and/or pizza. They said “yes”. So, a table full of all the things was laid. They barely touched anything. Now they won’t go back down to the basement…

The 13-year-old party goers stayed up until 3:30 – that’s a.m. Then, they were up by 9. I fed giant pancakes, they packed their stuff and most of them have already departed. I think it’s safe to say this major source of anxiety has passed. Teenage girls are still scary!

Seriously, Alberta Emergency Alert - how about you stop before we get to the double digits?!
