Today I learned a student of mine from China gave up waiting for his Canadian visa after over a year without updates: 1. He was a Vector Scholarship awardee. 2. He had to set aside $20K under the Direct Stream (for faster visa processing), despite being my funded student. 3. He

This is apparently not a single case. IRCC attention please: Canada needs more talents in AI, but why do we keep delaying visa for them without clear reasons?

This seems to be a recurring story at the start of this academic year. It seems to target a few countries, more transparency would be welcome to advise students.

I'm being featured on the University of Waterloo main site at uwaterloo.ca today! uwaterloo.ca/news/mathemati… Is it possible for a professor to successfully bridge academic research and industry innovation? The answer, it turns out, is Yupp

When Sam Altman told me at the AI summit in Paris that they were serious about releasing open-source models & asked what would be useful, I couldn’t believe it. But six months of collaboration later, here it is: Welcome to OSS-GPT on Hugging Face! It comes in two sizes, for both

Totally agree. I really wish reviewers could focus more on being constructive rather than judgmental. What's especially frustrating is how rebuttal often feels like trying to please reviewers. I recently pointed out a factual error in a reviewer's claim, and unsurprisingly, it

Really cool to see Cursor expanding into terminal! I've always felt that terminal interaction is a missing piece in data collection for code LLMs: models are mostly trained on static github repos, but we developers constantly interleave coding and observing terminal outputs.

Just learned I've been permanently banned from r/MachineLearning on Reddit. I cannot figure out why. It seems to be for the attached post I made about ManusAI's blogpost, but I do not see which rule it violates. Does anyone have a guess why? Does anyone know any
