✨CONGRATS to my UG trainee Margaret Leonard for being selected to join the Summer Research Program at The Jackson Laboratory lab in Bar Harbor, ME. I'm excited to see how this program will shape her as a scientist, knowing students like her can still lead a bright future for science.

A great time as always at #AACR2025. My two students learned a lot during the meeting. I’m excited to see how they do w/ one graduating & heading to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center for grad school and the other heading to The Jackson Laboratory this summer.

"A lack of faith is often tragically accompanied by the loss of meaning in life, the neglect of mercy, appalling violations of human dignity, the crisis of the family and so many other wounds that afflict our society."

alex rubinsteyn I would have biotech pay a tax that helps fund autonomous scientists to pursue scientific discoveries toward cures. Then, there would be a partnership between the companies & scientists to create effective clinical trials of these discoveries. Almost like a social contract…

Here is my latest Substack post as research director of a SLAC. Some editorializing on my part, but when mentoring students as scholars, the question about AI isn't "will AI replace our work?" but "what makes our work as humans irreplaceable?” open.substack.com/pub/presbycira…

What always got when reading about the eugenics movements was not just the moral bankruptcy of what they promised, but the things they promised that were not ever possible in fulfilling.

nearly every academic scientist in the US - not just those at state schools - is a public servant, and we’d all be better off if this weighed on EVERY scientist throughout every day and night

What a super great thread on a nuanced, yet fundamental problem in science publishing: the problem in pressuring every study to be “high-impact”
