Looks like it’s possible to intercept traffic in a kubernetes cluster to an IP address by creating a ClusterIP Service and setting its ExternalIP (and kube-proxy would create iptables rules to steer the traffic to the service)

Are you a student working on systems research. You should submit your early work to the SOSP Student Research Competition (SRC) and get some early feedback. All you need to do is write and submit an 800 word abstract by August 7. More information: sosp2021.mpi-sws.org/cfsrc.html

This framework is useful not only for cold emails but also warm emails, for example for folks who have expressed interest at a conference. Craft a good subject. Personalize. Get to benefits quickly. Clear, low friction ask. Keep it short. Read full thread for details.

Not being widely reported (that I’ve seen), but Dem’s proposed QSBS change (which would take effect starting tomorrow) will massively impact entrepreneurs and investors. A LOT of people scrambling over the past couple of hours.

An engaging writeup on undefined code in C/C++, (sometime unexpected) compiler optimizations on such code, and recommendations for developers how to avoid common pitfalls (among which, automatic checking). Schrödinger's Code - ACM Queue queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=… via ACM Queue

Agree that without observability, it is hard to achieve reliability, scalability and security, and that eBPF and the API are good observability surfaces. I wish our programming languages also treated o11y as a first class citizen, e.g. devs exposing telemetry on function return.

Kubecon is coming up! Please join my talk about how to mitigate increased service times (found to increase >25%), and tail latency (4-13x), due to uncontrolled use of memory bandwidth and cache resources. On the schedule: sched.co/1i7qF #KubeCon + #CloudNativeCon
