What an inspiration — every time — to meet Dr Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, one of the few true humanist leaders of our times. I assured him that UNHCR will continue to support Bangladesh as the host of #Rohingya refugees and as it strives to find solutions to their displacement.

Crossing paths in Bangladesh… and kudos to Hadja Lahbib for her tireless travels to places affected by difficult crises. I am proud of the European Union’s solidarity and support for those affected by conflict: because today, more than ever, we need its humanitarian leadership.

Leaving Bangladesh after three intense days with government, partners, colleagues. Nowhere more than in the Cox’s Bazar camps is the life-saving role of humanitarian aid clear; no other refugee population more than the #Rohingya deserve a just, durable solution to their plight.

An awful attack has been carried out at a Damascus church, with many killed and injured. On behalf of UNHCR staff in Syria — where I’m visiting —condolences to the families of the victims; wishes of prompt recovery to the injured; and sincere solidarity with all Syrian people.

Another challenging season with monsoon. Flooding, damaged shelters & service facilities, landslides. Efforts to prevent the disasters & responses to the affected population are critical. #Rohingya #WithRefugees #Bangladesh

UNHCR is being forced to scale back operations. We’re prioritizing life-saving aid, but the gap has driven operations to the brink, also jeopardizing efforts aimed at achieving self reliance. unhcr.org/news/briefing-…

A major earthquake has caused many casualties in Afghanistan. This adds death and destruction to other challenges including drought and the forced return of millions of Afghans from neighbouring countries. Hopefully the donor community will not hesitate to support relief efforts.

The recent earthquake has affected more than 500,000 people in E Afghanistan — aid from donors, including Pakistan, is vital and welcome. Especially given the circumstances, I appeal to the Government of Pakistan to pause the implementation of the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan.

Our 60-day Gaza plan is delivering. Since the ceasefire, we have been able to bring in much more flour, yeast, and fuel for machines. New UN supported bakeries are being opened every day. Visited the latest, where 300,000 pieces of bread are already being produced daily. World Food Programme
