Following the PhD defence of @jenni_raikkonen, who zooms in on "we" and "us", convincingly arguing what an important role these little pronouns have played in British political discourse. 🎓🇬🇧

This spring I have been teaching English at Tampere University Language Centre. The highlight is happening now that final self reflections are rolling in and students are describing their increased confidence in using English for discussions and presentations.😊

My #DHH24 takeaways: 1⃣ Interdisciplinary research groups are a a boon for triangulating methods. 2⃣ Text analysis of social media gets linguistics far, but there's a lot of untapped metadata available. 3⃣ It's amazing what results you can get in just 7 days of intensive work.

Just 7 more sleeps until #cads2024 (and 9 to my Friday presentation). Looking forward to the exciting programme with brilliant people and presentations. But also excited about the city and the Alps, I mean just look at that picture. 🏔️🇦🇹

Just created a Bluesky account (same handle as here). I tried finding people there, but it's a process to locate everyone. If you want to be mutuals over there, too, feel free to follow!

Fascinating #cads2024 keynote Rachelle Vessey . Existing #CADS methods can be used to explore intersectionality, a lens that could help linguists communicate research to other fields, too.

First day of teaching!🧑‍🎓There is a lot of new stuff to learn both for me and the students. Until end of 2026, I'll be working as a lecturer in English at University of Helsinki Faculty of Arts. So there's still time to learn!
