Ever wonder why air off the Southern Ocean is ‘the Cleanest Air on Earth’? Our new study finds this to be a result of intermittent showers washing out aerosols from the air. Widespread, shallow convective clouds efficiently scrub the atmosphere clean! nature.com/articles/s4161…

Our new study on the 2022 Great Barrier Reef mass coral bleaching event demonstrates how the regional meteorology drove the event by disrupting the prevailing trade winds, which in turn warmed the waters by cutting off evaporative cooling. nature.com/articles/s4159…

New study links local meteorology to coral bleaching events in the Great Barrier Reef. Lara Richards and her co-authors reveal that a collapse in trade winds played a crucial role in the 2022 mass bleaching event. Read more here: climateextremes.org.au/new-study-link…

Had a great time mentoring students at CAPE-k summer school! It was amazing to see them dive into cloud-aerosol interactions over the Southern Ocean, from basics to real-world case studies. Loved their enthusiasm and insightful discussions. Look forward to crossing paths again!
