Yellow clematis (Clematis tangutica) is a perennial vine native to Asia and is considered a noxious weed in Alberta. It is crucial to control its spread; remove plants already growing and avoid planting this species. A beautiful, non-invasive alternative is limber honeysuckle.

Some invasive plants are toxic to humans, animals and plants. Leafy spurge for example, has milky sap that can harm animals if eaten and irritate human skin, however sheep and goats can eat it safely making them a great management strategy.

🌹Happy Valentines Day! When you’re done with your floral arrangements, please place them in the garbage, not the compost! Common baby’s breath, often used in bouquets is a NOXIOUS invasive plant in Alberta, and proper disposal can help stop it's spread!

How do bugs find a Valentine? Sight, sound, and smell are important for insects for attraction. Male crickets chirp, rubbing a rasp on their wing, some female moths make chemicals detected by male antennae. When you see a bug ask yourself "How does this bug find 'love'?"

Winter snow means more spring puddles, and that also means more spring mosquitoes. However, those lazy spring mosquitoes are not the same species that bother us more intensely later in the summer - and a wet spring helps our increasingly dry province as a whole! #NoMosquitoes

Pale yellow iris is a PROHIBITED NOXIOUS weed in Alberta. It's crucial to remove and destroy existing plants to stop its spread. You might find it in gardens as it is sometimes still sold as an ornamental plant. Opt for the beautiful native western blue flag iris instead!

Native to Alberta but rarely seen, psuedoscorpions are tiny arachnids related to spiders and scorpions. Predators of tiny insects, they are totally harmless to people; living mostly in leaf litter, soil, and similar spots. Learn more: tinyurl.com/23y6t3bk

Property owners: You are responsible for managing weeds on boulevards, alleyways, and easements around your property. This means removing prohibited noxious plants and preventing the spread of others. Help protect Edmonton by keeping these areas weed-free.
