I've followed Marc's system blogs since the early days of my research journey, and it's a thrill to see our recent caching work highlighted in his latest post. For anyone who appreciate a good algorithm, this is not to be missed!

It is great to lead the transition from LRU caches to FIFO-based caches! A lot of interest in our new cache eviction algorithm, SIEVE sievecache.com. It hits the top of HN twice within a week. This happened after S3-FIFO s3fifo.com hit the top last month.

Juncheng Yang, the lead student behind S3-FIFO, is on the academic job market this year. Juncheng has been consistently exceptional. He is definitely someone you don’t want to miss out on! Juncheng Yang #AcademicJobMarket

Computer scientists have invented a highly effective, yet incredibly simple, algorithm to decide which items to toss from a web cache to make room for new one. Yazhuo Zhang, an Emory PhD student, is and co-first author of a new research paper. links.emory.edu/Q1

Have you heard about a new cache eviction algorithm called SIEVE, which has been adopted in 10+ companies and used in 20+ open-source cache libraries? If you have not read the award-winning NSDI paper, now you can read the shorter USENIX ;login article usenix.org/publications/l…

What to learn how S3 really works? Love this post by Andrew Warfield because it goes into detail about what it takes to run a system as huge, complicated, and critical as S3. And S3 is unfathomably huge--it stores 280 trillion objects and servers 100 million requests per second, a
