What role do informal healthcare providers play in our health system? Tanuj Luthra writes a brilliant article based on his fieldwork where he is trying to understand the dynamics of IHPs in Delhi. #publichealth Dr PV Ramesh Soumitra 🌻 সৌমিত্র சௌமித்ரா سومترہ healthiswealth nivarana.org/2023/06/10/inf…

I spoke with Dr. Chaturvedi about her new book. We discussed the ‘exceptional-normal’ case of Kerala, the violent heart of representative democracy, and how the law depoliticizes political violence in India. Do listen! NB South Asia 📚 Duke University Press sptfy.com/OKl9

Great to see this being called out, however, this is hardly just an Economics problem. The sheer arrogance of playing god over ‘subjects’ that can hardly give informed consent is symptomatic of experimental research. It’s also the gold standard for Poli Sci research in the West.

Can you guess what happens when you *deliberately* and selectively constraint the liquidity available to some of the most impoverished workers for an experiment they did not directly consent to participate in? … … … Sometimes the answer is don’t do it just because you can.

Long read: India’s Muslim politics is in flux. The once-important ulema are now on the margins of this churning—Hindutva has pushed once-visible Muslim clergy behind scenes & underlined its credibility crisis. theprint.in/politics/india…

YashRaj films captured this in 2013 with Shuddh Desi Romance. Live-in relationships are thriving across India’s small towns. And so are the challenges, esp for interfaith couples. I deep-dive into how small-town India navigates love, landlords & the law: theprint.in/ground-reports…

Why economists should refrain from making sweeping historical arguments, based on sophisticated calculations, when using statistics or data that rely on flawed, false, or misunderstood evidence from the past : a thread (1) 🧶
